I usually try to create a really special and personalized card for my mom on Mother's Day using photographs of us together, or now more likely, Ava.
I'd been wanting to try this silhouette tutorial so this year, I thought I'd use it to create my own version of this card (below) using Ava's cute little baby head silhouette:

Here's how you can do it too:
- Crop the photo.
- Optionally, you can use Picasa's new effects to make the lines stand out more clearly (I used Neon).
- Print onto photo paper or any other heavy card stock.
- Cut out the silhouette as you would like it to appear on the card.
- Attach it to the front of a blank card with a few pieces of tape. I used a natural toned linen card.
- Trace within the edges of the silhouette like a stencil. I started with a marker to get the most definition, especially around the facial features.
- Remove the stencil and fill in the rest of the silhouette. I used oil pastels in a couple different shades of pink. I like how the pastels bring out the texture of the linen card stock.
- Finish decorating the card as you like. I trimmed the card's edges using jagged-edged scissors and added a few colorful flowers by spinning the round top edge of the pastel and the word love across Ava's head.
Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers!
